Scrabble board

A few of my friends keep telling me that I need to post this craft that I made to my blog.  Well, I lack confidence in my work, but I am going to post it anyway.

I made a scrabble board for just about everyone in my family this year for Christmas.  You are thinking, a scrabble board?  What?

Well, I came up with this crazy idea to try to use all the letters in a scrabble game to come up with words that described that person or their immediate family.  I made one for my SIL, my mom, my uncle, my grandparents, my dad and my MIL.  It was kind of challenging, but I really enjoyed making them.  And they are definately a one of a kind.

Here is one that I made.  If only I had taken a picture of each one of them...oh well.

If you have any questions on how I made it, just email me.  I'll be more than happy to share the information with you.

What is "ove"?

Last week I was walking around Michael's wanting to make something for Valentine's Day for my house.  I don't have much decorations except for a few candles for the holiday.  So as I was walking around I came up with a great idea, or so I thought.  Well, I bought four pictures frames $1 each, four wooden plaques $.59 each, four wooden caps $1.19 for two, and two wooden spindles $.79 each.  I already had two taller wooden spindles at home, and I bought the 4" letters "o", "v", & "e" for $.99 each.  They were out of "l".  Not a biggie.  Valentine's day is still a month away, they should be getting them in soon.

Here is all the supplies I have for this project...

I took the spindles and glued them to the plaques with E6000 adhesive.  Then I took the end caps and glued them to the top center of the picture frames.  Once that set I glued the picture frames onto the spindles.  I had to prop the picture frames so that they wouldn't tip over.

Once the glue dried, I took them into my garage and spray painted them matte black.  I didn't take a picture of it, but you can just imagine them black, can't you?!?

Then I took my three letters and spray painted them a sandstone color.

Once they dried, which was very fast, I took my antique glaze and brushed it over the letters.  Then I wiped the excess off.  Sorry, these pictures did not turn out well at all, so I am not sharing.

Once that dried, I took my E6000 and glued the letters to the picture frames.  Once those dried I took a piece of jute twine and tied a bow on the "v".  I then took two wooden hearts that I had and hot glued them to the loose ends of the bow.

This is what I have now.  I wanted some decorations that I could keep up all year long if I wanted too.

I really like the way that it turned out, but I need that "l".  Every time that I am in big town, I run into Michael's to see if they have my "l" for me.  They have been out for two weeks and don't really know when they are getting anymore in.  Really!?!?!  Great, now what do I do?  Well, I went ahead and put it out, because I really do like it, but now every time CX walks by it I hear, "Hey mom.  What is ove?"  I could just pinch his little head off, smart bottom!  If I ever get my "l", I'll update my post.  Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Updated!!!!!

I happened to be in a neighboring town when I noticed that there was a Michael's just on the other side of the road.  I quickly ran in to just check to see if they had my "l" in.  I didn't really think that I was going to be so lucky, but there it was!  AHHH!!  Yea!  That was the cheapest that I have ever walked out of a Michael's store.  I didn't have time to do much else, but I did get it!  Here is the finished product.  What do you think?  Is it better with the "l"?!?!?!

I am happy now that my project is complete!  Hope you enjoyed it!

day 14

January 22, 2010

Hello....does anyone need a few good men?!  Well, get ready to be jealous, because I have 5 of the best guys around right now doing everything that I say.  Seriously!!  Well, not everything I say, but anything that I want when it comes to my house!  =P

Here is the newest picture from my front door....Not much different, but they did work today!

They poured the concrete for our garage floor today.  It took two trucks to bring enough concrete for a three car garage....crazy that doesn't look like you need that much, does it?

They put more of the sub floor down for the foyer, laundry room, mechanical room and mud room.  Doesn't look like you can put all of that into that space, but that is the plan.  Just have to wait and see.

We've had quite a bit of rain and haven't really had a chance for anything to dry out, so this is what my yard looks like since all of this started.  Especially since we had two concrete trucks in the yard today it is really nice and muddy!

They finished ripping the siding off of the north east side of the house.  I was in my bedroom, which is the window on the left and it sounded like they were coming thru the ceiling on me.  Seriously, I could hear every word they were saying, it was like they were standing right next to me.

Then they went ahead and rounded the corner.  Check out how much they got done on the back of the house.  I am very impressed.  Although, I keep hearing this is the fast part, it's the inside finishing that takes forever.  Great.

I know, I know....I still have my Christmas door decorations up.  I just can't bring myself to put my spring stuff up yet.  It's so gloomy, I need to come up with something that is just for winter time.  I'll show you what I come up with for the doors.

day 13

January 20, 2010

I have a front porch!!!!  Yea!!!  I'm so excited!  I came home from my usual Wednesday routine and this is what was waiting for me....

This is what it looks like outside of my front door.....

This concrete is going to be my porch...whoo hooo!!

The window that lil sis is looking into is going to eventually be an open area that looks down onto the stairs that take you into the basement.  Pretty cool, no?!?!?

The guys are coming back Friday to pour the concrete for the garage floor.  This is so exciting...I have a ton of decisions to make now; tile, paint, front door, shingles, the list goes on and on.  Until Friday, here is another picture....

Day 12

January 19, 2010

Okay, so I am now caught up with this post.  What you see in these pictures is what it looks like at my house.

The framer showed up early today and had a crew with him.  Seriously, there was 4 or 5 guys here working like a well oiled machine.  They stayed later than normal...which I think they were trying to get something done before they left.  CX was kind of excited to see them here working when he got off of the bus because they usually start to show up right when he leaves for school in the morning and then go home right before he gets off of the bus.  Poor kid, he loves watching them work and all the equipment that they use.

Here is what it looks like out my front door now....

See that little hole down there....that will be the access door to the crawl space...how nice is that is you are a plumber and need to get in there?!?!?  Sweet!

So there you have it.  I have now caught you up to date and then I will be leaving for a week.  We are going to Orlando and probably when we come back it will be all done....yeah right, but it will look a lot different.  Those guys are working fools and I love it!

Day 11

January 18, 2010

I am almost caught up with the posting of the pictures!!!  Yea!   Here is what they did yesterday.....

This is out of my front door....all the forms are gone and you can really see it starting to take shape.  EEK!!  So excited!

That big pile of gravel is soon going to be dumped into the garage area for the concrete floor to be poured onto.

day 10

January 16, 2010

Two guys showed up today and started removing the forms from the concrete.  It doesn't look like they did much but they were banging alot.

So this is the back view of the garage to be.  It will be bricked and will look sooooo cool!  All of this that is in the foreground will soon be my new yard and I have some pretty plans for trees and flowers, but that won't be until probably next spring.

Day 9

January 13, 2010

They poured the concrete today.  They won't be back tomorrow because they need to let the concrete cure for a day before they take the forms off.  Pictures aren't really much different than yesterday, except that they are filled with concrete, but I am sharing with you anyway.  Enjoy!

I put a little H into the wet cement to mark the territory...even though you won't be able to see it ever again.  Still, I know that it is there and always will be, as long as the house is standing.  Can't wait to show you what is coming up next!

Day 8

January 12, 2010

They have put the forms up for the concrete that will support the walls and the floors.  It is getting closer and closer!!!

Soon my house will no longer look like this...and I might even have a drive that I don't need to put my car into four wheel drive to get down it.

January 11, 2010

This is what it looks like out of my front door.  Eventually, this will not be my front door, we are opening this area up a little bit and what you are looking at right now is the foyer and beyond that is my front porch.  It is hard to imagine it, but it is making progress.  More pictures of where the foyer and garage will be.  And my new laundry room as well.

Can you visualize it yet?  It doesn't look like it is going to be that big right now, but I know it is going to make a huge difference in the look of the house.

January 13, 2010

Day 6

Day 6 was January 2, 2010. I don't really know all the things that they got done today....this is all new to me.  But the guys were here and did work.  Here are some pictures...

They did get a few forms put up and they covered the concrete with plastic and hay since we are supposed to be getting bad weather.  I don't understand it all, but they know what they are doing.  I can know see where my garage and front porch is going to be....I'm so excited!!

Day 4 & 5

Well, I forgot to take pictures when they got the re-bar done, but I did take pictures when they poured the concrete for the footings.  On new year's eve they poured the concrete and this is what it looked like...

They have to let the concrete cure for a few days and then they will be back out to start building the forms for the walls.  Start to jackhammer into the side of the house.

Now we are off to party with some of our friends to ring in the new year.  Good-bye 2009, hello 2010.

Day 3

Thought I would update you on the home remodel....Day 3

This is what it looks like when I open my front door.  Nice backhoe work.
Some more photos....

They have these trenches dug out getting ready to lay rebar for the concrete footings.  Oh, and by the way, did I mention that we had everyone over to our house for Christmas this year?!?!??!  Yep, and we have all this nice red clay for them to drive on and no way to come into the front door.  We'll survive....till the next update.
